Easy Rice and beans in a rice-cooker – my Haitian Recipe Hack!

In this video I share how I modified my mom’s rice and beans recipe to make it as simple as possible for those nights when I don’t have anytime at all.

My kids love rice, especially rice and beans. So this recipe is a staple. I also do it the long way with dry beans, but I use the slow cooker to cook them instead of doing it on the stove.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups of rice (I use the measuring cup that come with the rice cooker)
  • 1 can of red or black beans (or which ever beans you prefer)
  • Water (again using the rice cooker measurements – usually for 4 cups I add water to line 5)
  • Chicken stock powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Herbs and spices (I like thyme, Italian blend and all spice)
  • Oil (just on tablespoon – optional)

When you cook with a rice cooker, you just dump everything in the pot, stir a little and put it to cook. My rice cooker cooks my rice in about 20min, and it’s all ready. You can serve it with anything you want salad, chicken, beef stew, meat balls.
